The Brothers Grimm

The Grimm family lived in Hanau, Germany. The Grimm brothers were the German brothers Jacob Ludwig and Wilhelm Karl Grimm. Jacob was a linguist, a folklorist, and he was a professor in Göttingen and Berlin. He has many important works in lexicography, and he has much knowledge of mythology and fairy tales. Together with Wilhelm, he collected German folk tales, and he offers these tales in the book Kinder- und Hausmärchen. In 1852 they started the German Dictionary, but this book was finished in 1961.

Later, a legend about the Brothers Grimm was created. In this legend it was told that the brothers wandered for years through the German lands and that they collected fairy tales there. But actually, important, and rich women sent the story to the brothers. Wilhelm was later married to one of these women, Dortchen Hassenpflug.

There are many series and movies about the Brothers Grimm and their fairy tales, one of these series is Grimm. This series is about people who are different. Descendants from the Grimm family can see mythical creatures as they are. The collective name of the mythical creatures is Wesen. Many creatures are based on the stories of the Brothers Grimm. A lot of them therefore have a German name like: Bauerschwein, Blutbad, Fuchsbau and Hexenbiest. Many historical events are explained by the existence of these Wesen. For example, the ideas of Hitler and The Boston Thea Party.

As I said, many famous fairy tales are from the Brothers Grimm, but the fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm are much darker than the Disney versions a lot of us grew up with.
